This is an awesome shop, with fantastic employees. I've visited stores all across the UK, and I gotta say, this one takes the cake.

Every time I walk in, the staff greet me with warmth and friendliness, keeping up their fantastic customer care and inviting environment throughout the years I've been playing and shopping here. It's great to still spot familiar faces among the gamers after all this time; it really proves this place is a community that’s stood strong!

This place is fantastic, with an awesome team and a vibrant community. I participate in Pokemon TCG events here, and there's a lovely mix of older and younger players who are always eager to help newcomers feel at home and learn the game.

The turnout is solid, and I've consistently felt included. The team works hard to create a friendly atmosphere, and thanks to the improvements made this year, the community has really thrived—it's the best it's ever been. I enjoy heading over for games and highly recommend it to others.

Having played at Athena years ago, I came back to find the scene completely different. The Pokemon community seems to have vanished, and the new players are pretty toxic and cliquish. The learn-to-play nights on Wednesdays, which kick off at 5 PM, charge you £5 just to join, but there’s no help from a Pokemon judge. It feels like you’re just left to figure things out on your own. At the end of the night, you only get one pack, so you’re really paying a lot for just that and not learning anything useful. I’ve been to a learn-to-play event at another store (not gonna name it here), and there, experienced players were teaching kids for free. Those folks have participated in major events and actually know their stuff. I’m baffled by what’s happened to Athena and the player community that used to thrive there. It’s just not enjoyable anymore, and the learning environment is lacking. The shop seems more focused on making money than providing a decent experience. Plus, it’s ridiculous that the prize support from the Pokemon Company is only given out after attending four events, while other shops hand it out weekly. I really hate to say this, but it’s the truth. I hope things improve, but honestly, I’m not sure I’ll be returning.

I got into playing Pokemon here back in 2015, and it used to be a great spot to learn and make pals. Sadly, that’s not how it is anymore. The community I once cherished has been sidelined for what feels like a playground. It’s become a really unfriendly and toxic environment, and I just don’t feel like going back. Plus, the way a fellow player and friend was treated over flimsy evidence is just wrong. The staff are super unhelpful, and while I get that they might not be active players, their grasp of the game doesn’t justify the league status they have. Everyone who tried to help has been pushed away. The lack of communication and understanding has turned this into a pretty miserable place to enjoy a beloved hobby.

I picked up a couple of sets of the "Oakie Doakie" dice. Awesome price! The delivery was super quick, and I got a lovely "thank you" email from Jamie, one of the owners. Definitely would suggest this place and will shop here again if I can.
